New PEN Report Highlights Anti-LGBTQ Bias in Educational Gag Orders

A new report by PEN America, which expands upon an assessment of burgeoning educational gag orders published in December, shows that a number of the orders specifically target the LGBTQ community in an "effort to censor anti-LGBTQ identities" that is "expanding rapidly." Bills that would enforce these orders have been introduced in 39 different states since January 2021, with 113 currently live in 35 states and 12 having become law in 10 states.
