President Obama to Award 2014 National Humanities Medal

The White House announced the distinguished recipients of the 2014 National Humanities Medal. Awardees, including historians, writers, a philosopher, and a scholar, will receive the medal from President Barack Obama during a ceremony in the East Room on September 10.

The National Humanities Medal honors an individual or organization whose work has deepened the nation’s understanding of the human experience, broadened citizens’ engagement with history and literature, or helped preserve and expand Americans’ access to cultural resources.  Among the 10 award winners are Annie Dillard, Jhumpa Lahiri, Rebecca Newberger Goldstein, Larry McMurty, and Alice Waters.
