Harvard Book Store's Carole Horne Is Retiring
Influential bookseller Carole Horne is retiring from Harvard Book Store in Cambridge, Mass., after 47 years. She has held several roles, from manager and buyer, to general manager, and, most recently, senior advisor to the management team.
Horne has a long legacy in bookselling, one that includes having served as president of the New England Booksellers Association (now NEIBA) and as a member of the Board of the American Booksellers Association (ABA). In addition, she was influential in developing education programs for booksellers, both at home and abroad, and respected as an advisor and source of wisdom for several generations in the bookselling business.
“I started at Harvard Book Store intending only to work for the summer," Horne said. "I had been a book lover from my childhood in a small Texas town and thought that a bookstore would be a fun short-term job. It turned into a 47-year career. I was lucky to have landed at Harvard Book Store. It was a perfect fit for me."
