Bill Barry to Retire After 40 Years in Publishing
After 40 years in the book publishing business, Bill Barry will retire on July 1. Barry joined Macmillan in 2009 to oversee its sustainability and business partnerships. As a direct result of his efforts, Macmillan said it has reduced it carbon emissions by over 40% compared to Macmillan's 2010 baseline, and the company has been carbon neutral since 2017.
In announces Barry’s retirement, Macmillan Publishers CEO Don Weisberg called his career as a publishing leader unmatched in the industry. Weisberg added that Barry will continue to represent Macmillan, over at least the next year, to important constituencies in it supply chain. “He also will be advising and supporting our senior executives at both Macmillan and Holtzbrinck, as we continue in our efforts to cement sustainability as a key value at Macmillan,” Weisberg said
