Bryan Talbot Launches Graphic Biography on Zoop
Acclaimed British comics creator Bryan Talbot is launching a campaign on the crowdfunding site Zoop to fund the publication of Bryan Talbot: Father of the British Graphic Novel, an illustrated biography of his life and career in the comics industry.
Talbot is best known as the creator of such celebrated graphic novels as The Adventures of Luther Arkwright, a work of apocalyptic science fiction published in various formats between 1978-1989, and its 1999 sequel Heart of Empire. In 2012, he collaborated with his wife Mary M. Talbot to create Dotter of Her Father’s Eyes, a graphic biography of Mary (who was the daughter of Joycean scholar James S. Atherton), which was awarded the 2012 Costa biography Award. Talbot was also a member of the 1980s-1990s “Brit Pack,” a group of influential British comics creators that included Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman and Grant Morrison, whose work had a major influence on the North American comics industry.
The graphic biography will be an oversized 500-page hardcover in color and black and white. The book will include introductions by Neil Gaiman and Ed Brubaker.
