Josh Marwell Retires from HarperCollins
Josh Marwell, president of sales at HarperCollins, will retire after 25 years with the publisher and more than 40 years in the industry. Marwell came to HarperCollins from Little, Brown in 1998 as v-p of trade sales, and was appointed president of sales in 2004. Marwell will remain with HarperCollins through April to facilitate a smooth transition. No successor has yet been announced.
During his time directing the sales effort for HarperCollins, HarperCollins CEO Brian Murray wrote in a note announcing Marwell's retirement, "our business increased 250 percent, and the company published thousands of bestsellers," adding that Marwell has "played a critical role in the company’s major growth initiatives—including the acquisitions of William Morrow, Avon, Amistad, Ecco, Harlequin, and HMH Books & Media."
Marwell serves on the board of directors of the Goddard Riverside Community Center, the executive committee of the publishing division of UJAFederation of New York, and the board of directors of the Downtown Alliance.
