Amina Gautier Wins Inaugural Soft Skull-Kimbilio Publishing Prize
Soft Skull Press and Kimbilio, a community of writers and scholars "committed to developing, empowering and sustaining fiction writers from the African diaspora and their stories," have announced the inaugural winner of the Soft Skull-Kimbilio Publishing Prize. The Best That You Can Do: Stories, by Amina Gautier, will be published by Kimbilio on January 16, 2024, and Gautier will receive a $10,000 monetary award.
“The stories collected in Dr. Gautier’s latest work demonstrates the commitment to Black fiction that Kimbilio seeks to foster,” said Mensah Demary, Soft Skull editor-in-chief, who selected this year’s winner. “Lyrical and nostalgic, The Best That You Can Do explores the potency of meaningful connections and human intention, and is a singular work of literature that exhibits the artistry and mastery seen throughout each Soft Skull title. I’m very excited for the opportunity to publish Dr. Gautier and to share her work with Soft Skull’s audience.”
The prize is part of a partnership between Soft Skull and Kimbilio that was announced last year.
