Pantheon Senior Editor Shelley Wanger to Retire
Pantheon senior editor Shelley Wanger will retire in December, after more than 30 years with the company.
Wanger joined Pantheon in 1991 and went on to edit books for Pantheon, Knopf, and Doubleday. In her tenure she worked with such authors as Joan Didion, Edward Said, John Gregory Dunne, Susanna Moore, and Michael Ondaatje. Wanger edited seven of Didion's books, as well as Mark Stevens and Annalyn Swan's Pulitzer-winning winning biography De Kooning.
"For over 30 years, Shelley Wanger has shepherded some of the great intellects of our time across the Pantheon and Knopf lists and she has done so with elegance, aplomb, and a deft guiding hand, all while bringing a particular acumen to everything she touched," said Pantheon editorial director Denise Oswald in a statement. "She has been an invaluable colleague whose grace and wit are unlikely to be matched and we will miss her terribly.”
