More than $1 Million Raised for Bookstore, Comics Shop Workers
The Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation, in cooperation with Humble Bundle and 17 publishers, has raised more than $1 million over six years to support owners and workers at bookstores and comics shops across the country. "One million dollars translates to nearly 500 emergency financial assistance grants to stabilize households, independent stores, and the communities they reside in," Binc said in a statement.
Publishers working in partnership with Binc and Humble Bundle on the initiative include Abrams, Adams Media, AdventureKEEN, BOOM!Studios, Chronicle Books, IDW Publishing, Image Comics, Kodansha, Mango Media, Morgan & Claypool, No Starch Press, Skybound Entertainment, Skyhorse, Sourcebooks, Springer, Stone Bridge Press, and Wiley. In 2018, Chronicle was the first publisher to designate Binc as its charity of choice for a Humble Book Bundle, the foundation noted; the proceeds from sales of their first two ebook bundles resulted in a donation of $72,941 to Binc.
