Carl Bromley to Succeed Dennis Johnson as Melville House EIC
Carl Bromley has been named editor-in-chief of Melville House, succeeding Dennis Johnson, who has served as editor-in-chief since he founded the company with Valerie Merians in 2001.
Johnson will remain at Melville House, continuing in his role as co-publisher with Merians.
Bromely, who previously served as editorial director for both the New Press and Nation Books (now Bold Type Books), joined Melville House in 2020 as executive director. Amber Qureshi will succeed Bromley as executive editor.
“Being editor-in-chief in addition to running the company with Valerie has become a bigger job over the years as the company has grown, and once Carl came aboard I realized our editorial program couldn’t have a better leader," said Johnson in a statment. "Carl is a veteran who’s long championed the kind of books we publish, and he really gets the mission of the company.”
