Canadian Orgs Request Meeting on Copyright Act
A group of book business organizations in Canada has requested an "urgent meeting" with the country's ministers of Canadian Heritage and Innovation on the country's Copyright Act following the release of a new report from the House of Commons.
"We urge the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Pascale Saint-Onge, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, François-Philippe Champagne, and all elected officials to take action so that these fundamental recommendations in favor of Canadian education and literature soon materialize in the law," the group said in a statement. "It is high time to close the gaps in the law and protect the future of Canadian literature."
Signatories on the request include Access Copyright, the Association nationale des éditeurs de livres, the Association of Canadian Publishers, the Canadian Authors Association, the Canadian Publishers’ Council, Copibec, the Literary Press Group of Canada, the Regroupement des éditeurs franco-canadiens, Union des écrivaines et des écrivains québécois, and The Writers’ Union of Canada.
