AAP Announces 2024 PROSE Award Winners

The Association of American Publishers has announced the 41 category winners and 118 finalists for the 48th annual PROSE Awards honoring scholarly works published in 2023.

The Awards for Excellence winners and winner of the R.R. Hawkins Award will be announced in the coming weeks. 

This year's winners include: 

  • The Voices of Nature: How and Why Animals Communicate by Nicolas Mathevon (Princeton University Press)
  • In the Land of the Patriarchs: Design and Contestation in West Bank Settlements by Noam Shoked (University of Texas Press)
  • The Culture Trap: Ethnic Expectations and Unequal Schooling for Black Youth by Derron Wallace (Oxford University Press)
  • Algorithms for the People: Democracy in the Age of AI by Josh Simons (Princeton UP)
  • Mnemonic Ecologies: Memory and Nature Conservation along the Former Iron Curtain by Sonja K. Pieck (The MIT Press)
  • Radical by Nature: The Revolutionary Life of Alfred Russel Wallace by James T. Costa (Princeton UP)
  • Quantum Phases of Matter by Subir Sachdev (Cambridge University Press)
  • Scarred: A Feminist Journey Through Pain by L. Ayu Saraswati (NYU Press)
  • A Myriad of Tongues: How Languages Reveal Differences in How We Think by Caleb Everett (Harvard University Press)
  • On Music Theory, and Making Music More Welcoming for Everyone by Philip Ewell (University of Michigan Press)
  • 24/7 Politics: Cable Television and the Fragmenting of America from Watergate to Fox News by Kathryn Cramer Brownell (Princeton UP)
  • The Rediscovery of America by Ned Blackhawk (Yale University Press)
  • In Praise of Failure: Four Lessons in Humility by Costica Bradatan (Harvard University Press)
  • The 272 by Rachel Swarns (Random House)
