Joy de Menil Joins Avid Reader as V-p, Executive Editor
Joy de Menil, formerly director of Belknap Publishing at Harvard University Press, has joined Avid Reader Press as v-p and executive editor. At Harvard, de Menil edited such titles as Mia Bay’s Traveling Black, which won the Bancroft Prize; Julian Jackson’s De Gaulle and France on Trial, both of which won the Pol Roger Duff Cooper Prize; Richard Lazarus’s Rule of Five, which won the Julia Ward Howe Prize and Tom Zoellner’s Island on Fire, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award), among others. Prior to her time at Harvard, de Menil worked for a decade at Viking, where she edited titles by such authors as Dan Jones, Megan McArdle, Sonia Purnell, Andrew Roberts, and more. Prior to Viking, she served stints at Random House, William Heinemann in the U.K., and the Atlantic Monthly.
