Grand Central Publishing Acquires 'Life & Work' by David Lynch
Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group, announced the acquisition of Life & Work by legendary writer, director, and artist David Lynch and noted journalist, critic and author Kristine McKenna. Ben Greenberg, executive editor at GCP, acquired North American rights at auction from Chris Parris-Lamb at The Gernert Company. The book is tentatively scheduled to be published in hardcover, e-book and audio editions in 2017. UK rights were sold to Francis Bickmore at Canongate and to Uli Genzler at Heyne in Germany; sales in several other territories around the world are in process.
Life & Work will be a hybrid of memoir by David Lynch, a leading figure on the cultural landscape for almost four decades, and biography by Kristine McKenna, who has been a friend of Lynch and a close observer of his work since his first feature, Eraserhead (1977). In the book, Lynch will truly open up for the first time about his lifetime of creativity, the friendships he’s made along the way, and the struggles he’s faced – sometimes successful, sometimes not – to bring his visionary projects to fruition.
McKenna’s biographical sections will be based on her new interviews with approximately 90 of Lynch’s friends, ex-wives, family members, actors, agents, musicians and collaborators in various fields, all interwoven into the story of Lynch’s life as a director of legendary films. David Lynch will read these remembrances and respond — essentially riffing on his own life.
