Knopf to Publish Memoir by Alexei Navalny
Alfred A. Knopf will publish Alexei Navalny’s memoir, Patriot, on October 22.
Navalny began writing Patriot shortly after his poisoning in 2020 and completed it just before his death in 2024. The book recounts the story of his life, including his youth, marriage, activism, political career, assassination attempts, and imprisonment, including never-before-seen correspondence from prison.
“This book is a testament not only to Alexei’s life, but to his unwavering commitment to the fight against dictatorship—a fight he gave everything for, including his life," said Navalny’s widow, Yulia Navalnaya, in a statement. "Through its pages, readers will come to know the man I loved deeply—a man of profound integrity and unyielding courage. Sharing his story will not only honor his memory but also inspire others to stand up for what is right and to never lose sight of the values that truly matter."
The deal was handled by Kathy Robbins at the Robbins Office, with Susanna Lea at Susanna Lea Associates handling foreign rights.
Patriot will be simultaneously published in hardcover, e-book, and audio formats. Foreign rights have been sold around the world and all publishers will share the October 22 global publication date. The announced first print run is 500,000 copies.
