Designer Chip Kidd Promoted to V-p and Art Director at Knopf
Chip Kidd has been promoted to v-p and art director at Knopf and graphic editor at Pantheon.
Since joining Knopf in 1986, Kidd has become one of today's most influential, prolific book cover designers and designed book covers for such Knopf author as Michael Crichton, Katherine Dunn, Bret Easton Ellis, James Ellroy, Robert Hughes, Kazuo Ishiguro, Gish Jen, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Jill Lapore, Cormac McCarthy, J. D. McClatchy, Jay McInerney, Gabriel García Márquez, Haruki Murakami, Sharon Olds, Orhan Pamuk, David Remnick, Oliver Sacks, Donna Tartt, John Updike, Edmund White, Elie Wiesel, and Lawrence Wright.
Kidd has also served as editor-at-large for graphic novels at Pantheon since 2000, working with such artists as Daniel Clowes, Art Spiegelman, and Chris Ware.
In 2005, Time Out New York declared, “The history of book design can be split into two eras: before graphic designer Chip Kidd and after.”
