Deborah Ghim to Join Ecco as Senior Editor
Deborah Ghim will join Ecco as senior editor, effective May 20. She will acquire "voice-driven literary fiction with a strong evocation of place or (sub)culture, as well as narrative nonfiction, essays, cultural criticism, and memoirs." Ghim will report to Ecco publisher Helen Atsma.
Ghim most recently served as senior editor at Astra House, where she acquired and edited such titles as Y/N by Esther Yi, Do You Remember Being Born? by Sean Michaels, and Happy by Celina Baljeet Basra.
Previously, she worked as a literary scout at Maria B. Campbell Associates and in editorial at Farrar, Straus and Giroux, where she edited Christina Sharpe, Virginie Despentes, and others. In 2022, she was a Korean Publishers Association fellow at the Seoul International Book Fair, and in 2023, she served as a judge for the PEN/Heim Translation Fund grants. This year, she will be participating in an editorial fellowship program at the Turin International Book Fair.
