Jean McGinley to Succeed Juliette Shapland at HarperCollins
Jean McGinley will succeed Juliette Shapland, who will retire on July 31, as SVP of rights and permissions at HarperCollins Publishers. McGinley has served as VP and associate publisher for children's books since 2018.
Shapland has spent 26 years with HarperCollins, joining in 1998 as a foreign rights manager. She was named SVP in 2015, shortly after the acquisition of Harlequin and the launch of HarperCollins' global publishing program. Following the acquisition of HMH in 2021, Shapland spearheaded the integration of its adult licensing and permissions business into the HarperCollins adult rights department. The following year, she restructured the combined adults rights department and, more recently, has overseen the rights and permissions for adult, children's, and Harlequin, integrating these departments into one group.
McGinley, prior to her current role, served as head of children’s subsidiary rights at HarperCollins for eight years. She will continue the responsibilities of her current role during the search for her successor.
The following people will report to McGinley, effective July 29: senior directors Cathy Barbosa-Ross and Rachel Horowitz; permissions director Peter London; director Reka Rubin; and rights assistant Francesca Krauland.
