Daniel Mayer Appointed Interim Director at Seminary Co-op

Two months after Jeff Deutsch stepped down from the position of executive director of Seminary Co-op Bookstores, which comprises the nonprofit bookstores Seminary Co-op and 57th Street Books in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, the board of directors has appointed Daniel Mayer as interim executive director, effective immediately.

Mayer, who holds a law degree, has been president and CEO of the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg, S.C., for the past two years. He previously served as executive director of the ArtsCenter in Carrboro, N.C., for six years. He earlier served as development director and then executive director of the Kirkland Performance Center in Kirkland, Wash., for eight years. He also has served as executive director of Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.

Noor Shawaf and Clancey D'Isa, who have been acting codirectors since Deutsch’s departure, also announced that they are moving on to pursue other interests. Shawaf has been with the Seminary Co-op since 2022, and D’Isa since 2018.
