Mass Book Awards Add Categories

For the 25th anniversary of the Massachusetts Book Awards, the Mass Center for the Book (MCB) is announcing the expansion of the program with two new categories—a biannual award for the best graphic novel or memoir and a “Notable Contribution to Publishing” award in recognition of the state’s publishing community.

“The time was ripe for this expansion,” said MCB executive Courtney Andree of the new graphic novel and memoir category. “Readers of all ages are hungry for graphic novels, and the Massachusetts comics community consists of a who’s who of top writers and creators.” She added, speaking about the new publishing award, “This is an opportunity to shine a light on the work of publishers in our own backyard, from world-class university presses to up-and-coming independent houses.”
