IBPA’s Book Award Program Calls for Entries
The Independent Book Publishers Association has opened for nominations for its 37th annual IBPA Book Award program, formerly known as the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award.
As part of the IBPA Book Award rebranding, the organization added seven categories to recognize work from historically marginalized communities, including Asian American/Pacific Islandar, Black/African American, disabled, First Nations/Indigenous, Latina/o/e, LGBTQIA2S+, and neurodivergent communities. According to the IBPA, "submissions to these categories will first be judged on the book’s contributions to the respective community and must include a significant contributor (editor, primary illustrator, photographer for highly illustrated books, publisher, or author) to the project from that community."
The IBPA Book Award honors work in 53 other categories as well. The wide slate spans fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books, among others; audiobooks; design; first-time publishers; and debut authors.
Indie publishers, hybrid publishers, association and university presses, and author-publishers are welcome to enter their 2024 titles. The entry deadline is September 30 for books published January-September 2024, and December 16 for books published October-December 2024.
