Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben Team Up on Suspense Novel
Witherspoon, the Academy Award–winning actor and founder of Hello Sunshine and Reese’s Book Club, and Harlan Coben, the bestselling and Edgar Award–winning thriller author, will cowrite an as-yet-untitled suspense novel. The book will be published in fall 2025 by Grand Central Publishing, an imprint of Hachette Book Group, in hardcover, e-book, and audio editions simultaneously. A screen adaptation is also in development.
Ben Sevier, president and publisher of Grand Central, acquired North American rights for the book from Cait Hoyt at CAA, who represents Witherspoon, and Lisa Erbach Vance at the Aaron M. Priest Literary Agency, who represents Coben. Century, a division of Penguin Random House UK, will publish simultaneously in the UK and Commonwealth, excluding Canada.
“Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben working together is a powerhouse collaboration that I wouldn’t have dared to dream up,” Sevier said in a statement. “These two masters each possess a virtuoso command of character and an unrivaled reputation for suspense storytelling—across screen and page—and jaws hit the floor as they described their incredible idea to the publishing team at Grand Central.”
The novel, per the publisher, "is Witherspoon’s debut and is based on her original idea, while Coben’s dozens of number one bestsellers promise the inventive storytelling and signature twists his millions of readers know so well," the publisher said, adding that "Witherspoon and Coben have been developing the concept, creating characters, and writing pages over many months of collaboration."
