BIO Partners with Troy University on Black Biography Conference
Biographers International Organization (BIO) has partnered with Troy University in Montgomery, Ala., to sponsor the first major national conference in Black biography in more than 40 years.
Telling the Stories of Black Lives through Biography will take place on the Troy University campus on March 21-22, 2025, and it will feature a full day of speakers and panel discussions, along with receptions and other activities.
Saidiya Hartman will be the conference's keynote speaker, and panelists include Rachel Swarns, Kevin McGruder, Hannah Durkin, Tanisha Ford, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, and BIO board members Eric K. Washington, Tamara Payne, and Carla Kaplan. Panels will cover issues such as researching and writing about lesser-known figures, the general challenges of writing Black biography, and the craft of biography.
The conference is open to students, teachers, writers and readers of biography and Black history. Panelists will include noted writers and scholars
