Poets, Publishers Team to Support Recovery Efforts in Appalachia

Poets for Appalachia, a joint initiative of poets and 21 publishers spearheaded by Marchall, N.C.- based poet and translator Niina Pollari, is raising money through October 31 to support recovery efforts in western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene.

According to a release, Poets for Appalachia has so far funneled more than $3,000 to the local grassroots organizations Beloved, ROAR, and Mountain True, which do relief work in the region.

Donors of $30 or more will receive a poetry book from one of the initiative's participating presses, which include After Hours Editions, The Song Cave, Soft Skull, Action Books, Nightboat Books, Barrelhouse, Rose Books, Fonograf Editions, Third Man Books, and Ugly Duckling Presse. Additional books will be sent for donations that are multiples of $30.
