Minneapolis to Host Concert for Banned Books
Lerner Publishing Group is rallying support for books, libraries, and the freedom to read by organizing a concert in Minneapolis on Dec. 5 at 7th Street Entry at First Avenue, the performance space made famous by Prince. “Bands for the Banned” will feature four headliners—Dad Bod, White Boy Summer, Chutes, and Yonder—along with non-musical interludes by John Chrastka, the founder and executive director of EveryLibrary, and Cindy Hohl, the president of the American Library Association. Chrastka and Hohl both will speak on why music lovers should join with book lovers to oppose censorship and defend the freedom to read.
Advance tickets are $15 and tickets purchased the day of the show will be $20. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to organizations that help communities fight book bans and challenges, including EveryLibrary’s Fight for the First campaign, We Are Stronger Than Censorship, and the ALA’s Unite Against Book Bans initiative.
