Amazon to Shutter Kindle Vella

Amazon will shutter Kindle Vella, a mobile-first self-publishing service for serialized stories, in February 2025.

Amazon launched Kindle Vella in the Kindle app in July 2021, enabling KDP authors to publish 600-5,000-word "episodes" of their stories at a time. After reading the first three episodes of each story, readers could purchase tokens to read subsequent installments.

"We are grateful for all of the authors and readers who participated in Kindle Vella," said Amazon in a statement, "and, while we remain committed to experimenting and testing new ideas to deliver unique and delightful experiences for both readers and authors, Kindle Vella hasn’t caught on as we’d hoped."
