IDW Readies Two New TMNT Volumes for 2025
Comics publisher IDW Publishing will release the first collected volume of Jason Aaron’s run on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series and The Last Ronin II, penned by Turtles cocreator Kevin Eastman, next summer. Return to New York (TMNT #1), which collects issues #1-6 and the prelude story “Long Way Home” from the TMNT: Alpha one-shot, will be published on June 10 in a trade paperback and hardcover library edition. The Last Ronin II: Re-Evolution will be released on July 8 in hardcover.
Billed as “a perfect jumping-on point for new fans” by the publisher, Aaron’s run on TMNT finds its titular protagonists after they “have all left New York to pursue their own interests, but gathering forces will pull them back together in this first arc of a new ongoing series.” Artists on the run include Rafael Albuquerque, Chris Burnham, Cliff Chiang, Juan Ferreyra, Joëlle Jones, and Darick Robertson. The series relaunch in weekly comics marked the 40th anniversary year for TMNT, and received more than 300,000 orders, making it the year’s bestselling comic series, per IDW.
The Last Ronin II also launched in 2024, to the tune of 140,000 orders, and stars an all-new generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The creative team from the first run of The Last Ronin accompanies Eastman on the project, and includes writer Tom Waltz, artists Ben Bishop and Esau and Isaac Escorza, colorist Luis Antonio Delgado, and letterer Shawn Lee.
