Global 50 Con Webinar to Address Consolidation in the Book Business
A three-hour online seminar, “Global 50 Con,” to be held by Germany’s Digital Publishing Report on November 21, will feature book business experts from the U.S. and Europe as they discuss “the drivers behind the profound changes that have taken place across the book business in recent years.” Speakers include Brian O’Leary, executive director of the Book Industry Study Group; PW editor-at-large Jim Milliot; and industry consultants Peter Hildick-Smith and Thad McIlroy, the latter of whom is also a PW contributing editor.
Organized by consultant Ruediger Wischenbart, who compiles the annual Global 50 report of the world’s largest book publishers, the free seminar will examine how consolidation across all parts of the publishing ecosystem has impacted the global book market. In addition to consolidation among publishers, the seminar will investigate the impact of consolidation across the entire book value chain, in retail, distribution, and services, as well as the growing influence of such new platforms and services as Spotify and Webtoon and how they are affecting the market.
