Parul Sehgal Returns to the ‘New York Times’
New Yorker staff writer Parul Sehgal will return to the New York Times as a critic-at-large on December 23, where she will “contribute regular essays and anchor our new Ideas initiative,” per a release.
“Parul’s writing and thinking are, simply, electric,” said Sam Dolnick, who, with Jim Yardley, overseas the Ideas initiative. “When we saw the opportunity to double down on incisive, bold, provocative writing about the world of ideas, Parul was the very first call we made. I couldn’t be more excited that she’s coming home to The Times.”
In 2017, Sehgal replaced longtime critic Michiko Kakutani at the Times, and went on to serve as a senior editor and columnist at the New York Times Book Review. She previously served stints at NPR and Publishers Weekly, where she was a reviews editor, and won the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing from the National Book Critics Circle in 2010.
