Ruoxi Chen Joins Putnam as Executive Editor
Two-time Hugo Award-winning editor and 2022 PW Star Watch Superstar Ruoxi Chen has joined G.P. Putnam’s Sons as executive editor, reporting to Putnam VP and editor-in-chief Lindsay Sagnette.
“Ruoxi will draw on her deep experience in the speculative fiction space to bring exceptional crossover fantasy, romantasy, and science fiction titles for the general reader to the Putnam list,” Sagnette announced. “I look forward to watching her bring a new generation of talented storytellers to Putnam.”
Chen spent seven years at Tor Publishing Group, where she acquired speculative fiction, fantasy, and romance titles that attracted award recognition, including Emily Tesh’s Hugo-winning Some Desperate Glory, Tochi Onyebuchi’s Riot Baby, Nghi Vo’s Siren Queen and The Chosen and the Beautiful, and Freya Marske’s Swordcrossed.
“I have always been drawn to books that slip between worlds and boundaries—deeply specific stories with broad commercial potential that will find their exact reader regardless of what BISAC they live under,” Chen told PW. Today, “the genre markers that once defined how we launched books have become excitingly blurred, with both authors and readers weaving freely between spaces.”
Chen added: “I am thrilled to have found a new home for my speculative sensibilities within Putnam and its storied legacy.”
