Vivendi Spinoff Completed

Vivendi shareholders gave their overwhelming support this week to the plan by the French conglomerate to break the company up into discrete parts that include the Louise Hachette Group, which will house Vivendi’s book publishing holdings.

Vivendi controls a 66.5% stake in Lagardere, which includes the Hachette Livre publishing group and its retail travel division. Other newly separated businesses are Canal+ and Havas. The spinoff is unlikely to impact day-to-day operations of the individual companies, and was done mainly to boost the share price of the now standalone companies. Shares of the Louis Hachette Group will begin trading on the Euronext Growth Paris exchange on December 16.
