Bookshop.org Pledges $10K to Support Binc’s Wildfire Relief
The Book Industry Charitable Foundation, or Binc, announced January 9 that Bookshop.org will match donations to help bookstore and comics store people impacted by the Los Angeles area wildfires.
"Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the tragic destruction of the California fires,” Bookshop.org CEO Andy Hunter said. “To support those in our community of booksellers who have been affected, Bookshop.org is pledging $10,000 in a donation matching grant to help raise awareness and funds for those in need."
Beginning January 7, brush fires, severe winds, and power outages forced businesses to close, and book industry people needed to evacuate or shelter in place with their communities. According to a statement shared by Binc communications coordinator Erika Mantz, fire has “taken the homes of three booksellers. The devastation is widespread and ongoing, and we know the darkest days are yet to come.”
As of January 10, the situation remains unresolved, and Binc stands ready to help as a relief organization.
