Dark Horse Comics Drops Neil Gaiman

Dark Horse Comics wrote in a statement on January 26 that the publisher “takes seriously the allegations against Neil Gaiman and we are no longer publishing his works,” and confirmed that “the Anansi Boys comic series and collected volume have been canceled.” Dark Horse has published a number of comics and graphic novel titles by Gaiman, as well as the Neil Gaiman Library series.

Dark Horse is the second publisher to commit to no longer work with Gaiman on new projects, following W.W. Norton, which had only published the author’s 2018 book Norse Mythology, and an illustrated version last year, to date. Earlier this month, a spokeswoman confirmed to PW that “Norton will not have projects with the author going forward,” but did not make mention of whether it would cease publication of Norse Mythology. (Notably, in 2021, after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct were leveled at author Blake Bailey, the publisher ceased publication of Bailey’s Philip Roth: The Biography and took that book, and one other by Bailey, out of print.)

More information on if and how all of Gaiman’s publishers have responded to the allegations of sexual assault and misconduct against the British comics and fantasy writer is here.
