Black Lawrence Press Launches Immigrant Author Fellowship
Black Lawrence Press has announced the expansion of its Immigrant Writing Programs, which aims to “provide a designated space for critical writing by immigrant authors about their work,” according to a press release.
The newly-launched Black Lawrence Fellowship for New Immigrant Authors will operate under this program, offering financial and editorial support for immigrant authors with no more than one book at the time of application. Successful applicants will receive a package of support that includes a free 12-month subscription to Sapling worth $50, a gift card for $150 to purchase books from Black Lawrence Press, a full manuscript consultation for a full-length project worth between $425 and $795, and $150 in cash. Submissions are currently welcome through April 30, 2025.
In the next two years, new titles will also be released through the program, including Heart Eater: A Memoir of Immigration, Belonging, and How We Find Ourselves in Language by Sun Yung Shin, due out in summer 2026, and Daughtersong Diaspore by Barbara Jane Reyes, publishing in spring 2027.
With this expansion, the press hopes to “continue the work of providing a clear and consistent home for new immigrant writing” while also “highlighting the authors’ important contributions to the American literary community.”
