United for Libraries, PRH Announce Library Grants
Penguin Random House and United for Libraries have announced the 51 recipients of a new grant program serving rural and small libraries across the United States. Grants are administered by United for Libraries, while grant funding is provided by PRH.
The cash grants, which total $25,000, are being awarded to support libraries in need: 19 cash grants of $1,000 and 12 cash grants of $500. In addition to these cash grants, 20 in-kind book donation grants of $500 are being awarded to 20 libraries to purchase PRH titles. Each grant recipient also receives complimentary eLearning from United for Libraries, including a year of access to United for Libraries Learning Live monthly webinars.
This new grant program arrives amid of significant turmoil for libraries, as the Trump administration continues to undermine library funding and resources. Recently, staff at the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) were placed on administrative leave, prompting a lawsuit by the American Library Association (ALA) and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
“During a time when the future of public libraries is under attack, our collaboration with United for Libraries is more important than ever,” Skip Dye, SVP of library sales and digital strategy at PRH, said. “Small and rural libraries in particular are essential to their communities.”
