Guadalajara Attendance Nears 800,000

The 29th edition of the International Guadalajara Book Fair (FIL) closed on Sunday, December 6 after receiving nearly 800,000 attendees over nine days. Exhibitors from 44 countries representing almost 2,000 publishers made their way to the largest book fair of books in Spanish, and over 20,000 book professionals were present during the first few days of the fair.

The rights area sold out months in advance as 125 companies and agents from 27 different countries were there to buy and sell rights. Also, as the FIL is not just a trade fair, it is open to school children and the public at large. In total, over $42 million dollars’ worth of books were sold during the span of the fair.

This year's FIL guest of honor was the United Kingdom, but preparations are already being made for 2016. FIL will celebrate its 30th edition with all of Latin America as its guest of honor.
