2015 Diversity Baseline Survey Results
The results of the 2015 Diversity Baseline Survey (DBS) are in, looking at diversity among publishing staff. Results were gathered from eight review journals and 34 publishers.
In the publishing industry overall, a staggering 79% of staff is comprised of people who identify as white/caucasian, while 7% of the industry are Asian/Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, with 6% of those in publishing reporting Hispanic/Latino/Mexican heritage. In terms of gender, 78% are women, and 21% are men. Further, 88% of the publishing industry identifies as straight/heterosexual, and only 8% reported having any disabilities.
The DBS results also looked specifically at the executive level, the editorial department, sales department, marketing & publicity department, and book reviewers.
