Web Inventor Tim Berners-Lee to Keynote IDPF at BEA 2016
Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web and the director of the World Wide Web Consortium, will deliver the keynote address at the IDPF DigiCon (formerly IDPF Digital Book) at BookExpo America in Chicago May 10-11.
In 1989 Berners-Lee proposed an information management system utilizing a Hypertext Transfer Protocol client and server via the internet and using a web browser. He implemented the system the following year.
Berners-Lee is director of the World Wide Web Consortium (WC3), which oversees Web standards and development, and in 2007 he founded the World Wide Web Foundation, which works to “empower humanity” via transformative web programs.
Bill McCoy, executive director, IDPF, said, “Digital publishers depend on the Web for everything they do, and the Web and its open standards developed by W3C are continuing to rapidly grow and evolve. So, I'm particularly delighted that Tim Berners-Lee will be with us in Chicago. We are at a key juncture in the growth of digital content and Sir Tim's talk will provide crucial inspiration and information for anyone in the industry."
