Jackie Estrada Launches New ‘Comic Book People’ Kickstarter
Veteran comics professional Jackie Estrada has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a follow-up volume to her Comic Book People: Photographs from the 1970s and 1980s. The new book, Comic Book People 2: Photographs from the 1990s, shows off hundreds of Estrada’s photographs of comics artists and industry professionals during those years.
Estrada, administrator of the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards since 1990—the National Book Awards of the comics industry, is looking to raise $23,000 to fund the publication of Comic Book People 2. The campaign has already raised more than $15,000 and will end on March 13.
Last year Estrada raised more than $28,000 on Kickstarter to fund the publication of the first volume of Comic Book People. That book collects hundreds of Estrada’s b&w photos of such comics industry luminaries as Alan Moore, Melinda Gebbie, Will Eisner and Jack Kirby during the 1970s and 1980s. The new book collects rare pictures of such industry figures as Jeff Smith, Carla Speed McNeil, Grant Morrison, Todd Mcfarland, Roberta Gregory, Maggie Thompson and more.
