Sting Book to HarperSF
Judy Quinn -- 9/22/97
Guess the stars were right for this book to finally happen: On September 12, HarperSanFrancisco finally confirmed it had indeed contracted with music industry insider and star confidant Vic Garbarini to write a biography of rock star Gordon Sumner, aka Sting. Earlier, Broadway executive editor Charlie Conrad had come close to closing a reported $500,000 deal to acquire the book from agent J l Gotler of the Renaissance Agency. This new North American rights only deal, negotiated by Harper SF publishing director Diane Gedymin, is rumored to be in the low six figures . Since the book will cover Sting's spiritual journey into Jungian psychology, past life regression, shamanism, yoga and tantric sex as well as more standard biography elements like his time with the rock group The Police, it's "a perfect fit for theHarperSanFrancisco list, with our books so solidly entrenched in the new age, religion, spiritual and personal growth categories," said HarperSF editorial director Mark Chimsky. The house expects a fall 1998 publication.
