Diana Books Race Up the List
Daisy Maryles -- 9/22/97
To date, Pocket Books seems to be the main beneficiary of the intense interest in the late Princess of Wales and the Windsors; two of its books occupy the #1 and #3 slots on PW's mass market list. Going right to #1, Diana: Her True Story by Andrew Morton, written with her sub-rosa cooperation, went back to press for another million copies; #3, Diana: Her New Life, a sequel also written by Morton, went back to press for 400,000 more. Her True Story sold more than 55,000 copies in one week at three national chains, i.e. Barnes &Noble, Waldenbooks and Borders. Other Pocket titles being reported on bookstore lists include With Love from Diana by Penny Thornton, Diana's astrologer, and The Decline and Fall of the House of Windsor by Donald Spoto, which went back to press for another 100,000 copies, and the YA book Prince William: The Boy Who Will be King by Randi Reisfeld, of which 50,000 new copies recently rolled off press.
