Officials Tweaking BEA Events
Jim Milliot -- 10/13/97
With Random House joining HarperCollins and Simon &Schuster in agreeing to return to BookExpo American in 1998, BEA industry vice-president Courtney Muller is hopeful that more publishers will follow their lead. She said that the return of Random "encourages us that we will have a very active, vital show in '98."
To help ensure that BEA '98 meets the expectations of all attendees, show managers are considering a number of modifications. The author breakfasts, for example, will return to the traditional format of having a number of authors on a breakfast panel. To that end, BEA is requesting that exhibitors submit names of authors they would like to see take part in special events, be it an author breakfast or other events in the afternoon or evening. Deadline for submissions is December 1.

BEA also plans to make the directory of exhibitors available prior to the show for all companies who get their information in by March 1. The directory will list contacts for sales as well as a contacts for rites. The preregistration list of all attendees will also be made available to exhibitors prior to the show. The BEA is also considering allowing publishers to have autograph sessions in their booths on Monday for first-time authors.
