NBA Returns
Daisy Maryles, with Dick Donahue -- 12/8/97
Winning the National Book Award for fiction last month did more for Charles Frazier's first novel, Cold Mountain, than land it back at the top of the national charts (total copies in print: 1,396,185). The lucky readers who bought one of the 25,000-copy first printing now own a book that is worth much more in the collectible marketplace. A signed copy could fetch as much as $250 to $300, according the MFE Collectors' Bookline. The newsletter about recent fiction estimates that Don DeLillo's Underworld (the book many thought would win the award) would fetch $150 for a signed edition.
