ECPA, CBPA to Host Interfaith Service at '98 BEA
Maureen Jenkins -- 12/15/97
Next year's BookExpo America convention will feature a "Celebration of Faith," an interreligious worship service on Sunday during the show, sponsored by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association and the Catholic Book Publishers Association. The show will be held at Chicago's McCormick Place Convention Complex May 28-June 1.
ECPA president Doug Ross thinks the continued strength of religion and spirituality titles helped open the door to an event like "Celebration of Faith" at a secular trade show.

Although a Protestant minister and Roman Catholic priest will preside at the 45-minute service, BEA industry v-p Courtney Muller emphasized that the event is open to attendees of all faiths. Dr. Lloyd Ogilvie, chaplain of the U.S. Senate, will speak; a Chicago-area Catholic parish will provide music; and a member of the clergy will read scripture.

Muller declined to predict attendance, noting that the service is to be held at 8 a.m. on a show workday at the same time as the annual Author Breakfast, which usually features a high-profile author.
