The Chicken Soup Stock G s Higher

Health Communication is dominating the trade paper charts, with five titles among the top eight on our weekly list and a few more heating up right below. Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul takes the lead; it proved to be a very popular gift for Mother's Day. HCI reports that copies in print total 1.9 million. Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul, published this past April 20, has already sold more than one million copies. Co-author Mary Becker will make her third appearance on Good Morning America in June. Helping sales is a promotion that HCI has organized with the IAM's Pet Food Company; purchasers of IAMS products receive a discount on the book. Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul, on the charts for almost one year, is up to 3.4 million copies sold, and Chicken Soup for the Women's Soul (which also got a nice sales boost because of Mom's Day) is up to 3.7 million copies sold. The newest bestseller in the group, A 5th Portion..., has already sold 742,000 copies. And the HCI folk have many more niches to target with this amazingly popular series. Coming in July is Chicken Soup for the Country Soul, complete with a music CD. The first printing? Nothing less than 500,000 for any Chicken Soup, said Kim Weiss, director of communications.
