Hot Deals: Little, Brown Guns for More Mosley
Judy Quinn -- 7/6/98
With Little, Brown executive editor Michael Pietsch already involved with Norton bestselling author Walter Mosley in a one-book world rights deal for his change-of-pace SF title, Blue Light, coming this fall, PW figured it would be only a matter of time before Pietsch poached another title. Sure enough: Pietsch has confirmed he acquired North American rights to Mosley's next collection of short stories featuring Socrates Fortlow, the character introduced in Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned, published by Norton last fall. Agent Gloria Loomis told PW that HBO, which just did a production (with script by Mosley) of Always Outnumbered, is interested in a possible follow-up. The prolific Mosley has also agreed to do a Library of Contemporary Thought title for Ballantine and served as an editor for the nonfiction lecture compendium Black Genius, coming from Norton in February. Loomis confirmed that Mosley is, at press time, under contract for one more Easy Rawlins mystery for Norton.
