Arthur's Creator Sues Costume Companies
-- 8/31/98
Last month Marc Brown, author of the bestselling Arthur series, filed two lawsuits against costume rental companies to prevent unauthorized and unlicensed use of Arthur costumes.
In the first instance, Boston-based law firm Peabody &Brown filed a suit against Best Party Entertainers of Baltimore, Md., and received a temporary restraining order; the second suit against Total Entertainment of Peabody, Mass., also seeks injunctive relief.

The Arthur character has been featured in more than 50 books and in an Emmy Award-winning TV series on PBS. In-print figures for the books total over 23 million, and more than a million units of educational CD-ROMs have been sold.
