Laura Mathews, book editor at Glamour magazine since 1985, will join Penguin Putnam January 1, as senior editor at G.P. Putnam's Sons. According to Mathews, as an acquiring editor, "My aim will be to bring in and nuture a crop of wonderful new storytellers in the tradition of Alice Hoffman, Amy Tan, Barbara Kingsolver, Jane Hamilton and other emotionally resonant authors who help smart women make it through the night."
Commenting on her appointment, Penguin Putnam president Phyllis Grann noted that Mathews has "a wealth of knowledge and an editorial sensibility that will complement our existing publishing program."
