Pearson Education has instituted a new program -- dubbed Open Book Publishing -- that has as its goal achieving 100% factual accuracy in every one of the company's 45,000 school textbooks and ancillary materials.
Under the new program, which the company expects to have fully implemented by this fall, Pearson will review and audit all of its current textbooks. The company will also establish an interactive Internet-based communications policy that will alert educators to any factual errors or areas of possible misunderstanding. To oversee the new policy, Pearson has created a new position -- director of standards and quality -- and expects to name the new director soon.
