Amazon.com added to its management team last week when it named Joseph Galli to be the company's president and COO. Prior to joining Amazon, Galli was the president of Black & Decker's worldwide power tools and accessories unit. He will report to Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos.
According to a company spokesperson, Galli "will assume many of the day-to-day operations" of Amazon; he will also work with Bezos on strategic planning. Galli's appointment could be the first of several management hires at the fast-growing e-retailer. The company is still searching for a chief financial officer; its present CFO, Joy Covey, is slated to become Amazon's chief strategy officer once a successor is found.
